Epitaph for a Broken Heart

My mangled body lay in a pool of love and I vowed this to be my last battle.
Left for dead with nothing left to give,
I wept.
Like a mine sweeper I pranced around our playground until there was no ground left.
I wept.
Faithfully I gave my body to you without question.
Without hesitation I worshipped you more than I worshiped my Lord.

I worshiped
The feet that kicked
The tongue that hissed
The mouth that spit
The fists that clenched

None of it mattered because I loved you anyway.
Begged to stay then forced to leave —
here I lay and not in peace
There’s no love left inside of me.
